Lego Basics: How Much Do You Know?

Every weekend afternoon, I spend my leisure time at home studying. No, not reading, but playing with Legos.
This pastime has been with me for many years, but I still haven’t become a Lego player……..
But! I can tell you for sure that it has a lot of charm! It will make your weekend more fulfilling and fun!
If you, too, want to spend your boring weekends this way, then take a few minutes to read this post.
Let’s get started!

The History of Lego

Lego is a plastic building block toy that gained popularity in the mid-20th century. The word Lego comes from the Danish phrase “leg godt” (“play well”). The basic Lego block has remained the same since the 1950s, and the simple, child-friendly design is credited with the toy’s enduring popularity.
In 1949, LEGO produced its first plastic building block, a precursor to its iconic blocks, with interlocking studs and tubes at the bottom. In 1958, Christiansen’s son, Godtfred Kirk, patented the technology and succeeded his father as head of the company.

The History of Lego

In the 21st century, the LEGO brand spawned various video games, including popular Minifigure action-adventure games centered on notable pop culture properties such as the Star Wars films, Batman, Marvel Comics superheroes, and the Harry Potter books. The Lego Movie (2014) is a popular computer-animated feature film that also centers on the exploits of the Minifigure. One of the fan-favorite characters from that movie, Batman, is the subject of a stand-alone spin-off, The Lego Batman Movie (2017).

Why Is Lego So Expensive?

What makes Lego is quality. Lego’s motto is “The best isn’t good enough.”
Molded plastic Lego is as non-toxic and as high quality as possible. Currently, LEGO is working on finding climate-friendly, plant-based alternatives to petroleum-based plastics.
There are LEGO movies and TV. There are LEGO theme parks in most parts of the world.
Also, each LEGO block is molded to a tolerance of less than 1 micron (0.001 mm or less than 0.00004 inches).
Such small tolerances are necessary so that the blocks can be attached firmly enough and, simultaneously, they can be separated from each other again.
The cost of such precision is costly!

LEGO has a team of master builders who spend their time developing and designing exciting new building sets, so there’s always something new that kids want and something new that AFOL can save up for.
It means that even though you can replicate LEGO, it won’t be easy, it won’t be cheap, and you’ll have to compete for trademarks with an economic giant that does everything in its power to protect its name, reputation, and interests.

If you don’t want to play games and want to put together blocks, then this will be your paradise!
Lego is not a cheap hobby, and anyone who is addicted to Lego knows that! However, there are ways to get cheaper premium sets and parts. Now I’ll tell you where to look!

Brickset.com – My favorite place to find out about online LEGO deals is Brickset- – Huw and the team have tons of tools to automatically post the latest LEGO deals from Amazon and more detailed LEGO discounts.
Amazon.co.uk – some good deals (assuming you’re good quality and can get free shipping!). Use Brickset to see the latest discounts.
Smyths Toys – Frequent discounts on the range in-store and online.
John Lewis: Most stores have a good range of the latest Lego sets and offer a price-matching service, so prices may be lower than you think! They also sell Lego blocks and offer a click-and-collect service. It can be handy if you live near a store and want a specific set!
Supermarkets can also find some good high-end sets. Your local big Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and ASDA stores are great places to check regularly (plus, you can use your rewards/points card at these stores)!
Shop.LEGO.com for sales and offers – occasionally worth a look, but I wouldn’t expect much more than a keyring offering discounts directly from LEGO.
Lego Mystery Boxes website – where you can buy your favorite LEGO mystery boxes for a little money. It is easy to extract LEGO for a very low price. Each item is priced higher than the value of the box. It is much cheaper than buying Lego outright.
